New favorite quote

Have you seen Akeelah and the Bee? A great movie for kids and adults too! I loved cheering for Akeelah.

Anyway, Akeelah has a spelling bee coach (played by Laurence Fishburne) who has her read a quote from the wall. The movie incorrectly attributes it to Nelson Mandela. It was actually first said by Marianne Williamson. It's now my new favorite quote.

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.

Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.

It is our light, not our darkness,

that most frightens us.

We ask ourselves,

who am I to be brilliant,

gorgeous, talented and fabulous?

Actually, who are you not to be?

You are a child of God.

Your playing small doesn’t serve the world.

There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking

so that other people won’t feel

insecure around you.

We were born to make manifest

the glory of God that is within us.

It’s not just in some of us, it’s in everyone!

And as we let our light shine, we unconsciously

give other people permission to do the same.

As we are liberated from our own fear,

our presence automatically liberates others.

Marianne Williamson

And just in case you were wondering, this is my old favorite quote:

Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high;

Where knowledge is free;

Where the world has not been broken up

into fragments by narrow domestic walls;

Where words come out from the depth of truth;

Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection;

Where the clear stream of reason

has not lost its way into the dreary desert sand of dead habit;

Where the mind is led forward by thee into ever-widening thought and action---

Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake.

Rabindranath Tagore - GITANJALI "Song Offerings"
